Hello readers! I’ve decided to post an interview of successful entrepreneurs, bloggers and technologist, every Friday night. This is the first segment of “Geeky Friday“. And today my guest is one of most successful entrepreneur of Bangladesh, “Shimul Shariar“. Yes, you have seen it right.
Shimul Shariar who is well known for his website’s like fajlami.com, muxic.xyz, bissoy.com and so on. Also he is a talented C++ programmer, a passionate blogger and off course a successful businessman. I was planning to feature him on the first segment of “Geeky Friday“. And he accepted my invitation.
Miraz Mac: Good day Sir. Thank you sir for your time and for also honoring my invitation. 🙂
Shimul Shahriar: It’s my pleasure, and honestly I’m feeling proud, Good Day too Miraz
Miraz Mac: I know you as the CEO & Founder of Fajlami.com and also muxic.xyz . Tell us how do you manage such big projects all by your own?
Shimul Shahriar: Everything and Every startup has it’s own story. I was a kid back then,I mean a kid from HSC 1st year, started as a web developer for a local web design firm. One day My Dad asked me about my job, I showed him some of my projects, and my dad mad me shocked when he asked me “What have u done for yourself ?”
A strong question for me, I always worked for money, and never did anything for myself
so the idea came up, I need to do something for me.Fajlami was the Idea, a entertainment website, which gonna represent Bangladesh, our culture, our activities and what we are capable of doing
Miraz Mac: Great knowing that sir. Can you please tell us in brief how do you face and solve problems as an entrepreneur?
Shimul Shahriar: Good Question, professionally I’m a programmer, and you know what I’m talking about. Problems are our life, it is like we slept after 24 hours and got a phone call, servers are down, or google changing something, or some project needs money. And in Bangladesh, the system is also a big problem. How do I solve them ?
Thinking Deeply always helps you to solve the major part. I Think, I search about anyone else facing same problem, what they did, how do they solved, ETC. Now I have a list of some points, and the best part is calling my co-workers. Including internet activist friends too. We meet, we talk.
Miraz Mac: So apart from being a Technologist, what do you do for fun and for relaxation?
Shimul Shahriar: You know, from last year, I’m working as the CEO of Bissoy.com. so It feels like time is the most valuable thing. But I like Books, from my childhood. Hardcopy or PDF, I love them all. I love Movie’s. And my most fev thing is music. As muxic.xyz, i also shout and let the world know “I am Music”
Miraz Mac: Interesting, So you are a programmer, a blogger, an entrepreneur and also a businessman. Which one you prefer most?
Shimul Shahriar: First of all, as a businessman, I am not successful. I shut down my web hosting company hostcraf inc last year, for me that was a loss project. But being an entrepreneur is a fun thing. Blogging was and is my hobby, now days, i prefer short tweets instead of writing a blog post. But programming was my hobby, my profession and i wanna do it rest of my life
Miraz Mac: So sir, being a programmer, which language do you find more attracting?
Shimul Shahriar: 2015 was great. We worked together to make the internet a bit faster. Google introduced Mobile Friendly pages, AMP. In Bangladesh, there were some technology meet ups, but the worst part was government blocking social websites, I’m on search engines, so it was not a big deal for me, but so many web masters depended of social traffic had a bad time. We still don’t have any popular website from Bangladesh. I mean popular to whole world.
Miraz Mac: The decision of blocking the social sites was odd and too frustrating. However, whats your view on technology in Bangladesh?
Shimul Shahriar: Honestly I’m depressed. We worked for passion when we started. We thought to create something new. But Now, People thinks internet and tech as a source for money. When you’re after money, you will earn them, but u know, earning is not the maximum edge.
I know a lot of freelancers out there, working 12 hours or more. But think what will happen if they work for their own or some Bangladeshi projects. Basically I do not like the term, freelancing
“Bangladesh needs to work for Bangladesh”
Miraz Mac: Everyone is after money nowadays. Leave that, Tell us how do you drive such huge traffic on your network? Some kind of black magic or… :p
Shimul Shahriar: Simply think as a visitor, what do you want, what more you can get from this website. Nothing is Done, Improve, every inch of it. Honestly, Thats all
Outlook is mot a big matter, because we are talking about a website, not a woman. Fajlami.com is over simple, but the fact is “this is not the fastest website from south Asia”
And For bissoy.com, We had so many big brothers here, including besto.com ( personally I love Them ) but we have almost double traffic right now. Just because, we are user friendly, we listen to them, we do what they ask.
Miraz Mac: LOL. That’s true. Talking about woman, we know there’s a woman behind every successful man. What about you? :p
Shimul Shahriar: Ah, a woman, My Mom ? She often shouts about eating, lower volume of my music. And if You are talking about Girlfriend, I am kinda “Devdas”. Got Broke up back in 2014 and couldn’t work for almost one month. So I will say, there’s no woman behind anything of me without dressup
Miraz Mac: Ha ha ha. :v Okay, Now there is a fun game waiting for you. I will send you three emotions. You have to choose any of them. Each emotion has a secret question inside it.
Shimul Shahriar: Interesting
Miraz Mac: Choose any one between 1,2,3
Shimul Shahriar: 3
Miraz Mac: So the secret question is, “Do you feel jealous of your competitors?”
Shimul Shahriar: Not really, A competitor is a field full of knowledge. He or that have something what I don’t. So I will try to learn that point :p
Miraz Mac: I expected so :p Anyone you see as your role model in this field?
Shimul Shahriar: You know about Sean Parker ? I will say, he is the one, and he is the role model i’d like to follow. Not his “Playboy” part, as an entrepreneur
Miraz Mac: Finally… a message to your fans, friends, family and contributors alike..
Shimul Shahriar: OMG, I got fans ! To my Friends, I love you guys, you were always there for me. and for all, Be Honest, Be Transparent, and do the best you can. Live while you are alive
Miraz Mac: Thanks for your time bro. And by the way I’m one of the biggest fan of you out there. Thanks once again , I’m feeling honored. Have a good day bro!
Shimul Shahriar: And Thank you too Miraz. 🙂
